What We Believe

The PSBC Abridged Statement of Faith

What does all of this mean for you? Read about the good news of the biblical gospel.

God
| There is only one true God and He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of the universe. He eternally subsists as three distinct, yet equal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three Persons possess full divinity.

Jesus Christ | Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, co-equal with the Father. In His incarnation he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born sinless of the virgin Mary as fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life and offered Himself on a cross as the perfect sacrifice for all who will believe. Three days after His death, He physically rose from the grave, demonstrating His power over sin and its consequences. He then ascended to the right hand of the Father where He presently acts as the only Mediator between God and men.

The Holy Spirit | The Holy Spirit is God and co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to convict it of sin, righteousness, and judgment, regenerate God's own, and effectually call them to Christ. He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ and indwells, sanctifies, instructs, empowers, and seals them until the day of redemption.

The Bible | The Bible is the very word of God, divinely inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. It was written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Consequently, the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and conduct.

Humanity | Man (male & female) is the creation of God, made in His own image and likeness. He was originally created free of sin, but fell into depravity as a result of his disobedience to God's command. Upon this fall from innocence, man's will fell into complete bondage to sin and evil. He is therefore totally depraved.

Salvation | Salvation from sin and eternal punishment is offered freely to all who accept Christ as Savior and Lord, who by His own blood obtained actual and eternal redemption for the believer. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, and the salvation of all who truly believe is eternally secure.

The Church | A New Testament church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel. A local church is identified as such by observing the two ordinances of baptism and communion. Baptism is rightly administered by immersing a believer in water as a public profession of his/her faith in Christ.

Last Things | God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, after a period of unprecedented physical tribulation, Jesus Christ will return in glory personally and visibly to the earth. All unbelievers will be eternally consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. Believers, in their resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

Our Vision

At Pleasant Street, we strive to be driven by a passion for God's glory, a passion for God's word, a passion for God's people, and a passion for God's gospel. This means that when we gather, we do so to lift up God who saved us in the person of his Son Jesus Christ. At the center of our gathered worship is the Bible, the word of God, which is our source for everything we need concerning life and godliness. We want to be a place where believers are encouraged and instructed, as well as a place where visitors feel welcome and are encouraged to seek Christ.
